LA Anti-Immigration Riots: Rising Number of Busts, Says DA

Over 40 Arrests and Charges from Los Angeles Anti-ICE Riots

Following last month’s tumultuous protests against immigration enforcement in Los Angeles, authorities have reported over 40 arrests. Among those detained is a 17-year-old charged with attempted murder, as well as individuals accused of assaulting police officers and vandalism.

Prosecutors indicate that the protests, which turned chaotic, are now under active investigation. LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized that the legal process continues despite the protests ceasing. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to review evidence, identify suspects, and pursue charges where appropriate.

During the unrest, a teenage suspect was charged with serious offenses including attempted murder and assaulting a peace officer. Others include Robert Amaya, 49, accused of wielding a knife during an altercation involving a family and a young girl. Several individuals faced charges for attacking police horses and throwing projectiles at officers.

The riots stemmed from nationwide immigration raids conducted by federal agents under directives to apprehend and deport undocumented immigrants. The disturbances cost the city over $32 million in damages and law enforcement expenses, not counting the deployment of National Guard troops summoned by the government.
