Will Smith Celebrates 26th ‘Wild Wild West’ Anniversary in Cowboy Hat
Will Smith Shares Bold Throwback Photo on 26th Anniversary of “Wild Wild West”
In a daring Instagram post, Will Smith marked the 26th anniversary of his 1999 film “Wild Wild West” by sharing a revealing throwback image. The star covered himself with just a cowboy hat in a still from the movie, humorously captioning, “Wild Wild West came out 26 years ago today – sorry this is the only photo I could find.”
The picture highlights Smith’s impressive physique, with his biceps and chest prominently on display. Fans quickly flooded the comments, jokingly expressing admiration and teasing the iconic hat. Comments ranged from playful remarks like “Let me go frame this” to fans declaring, “This is the movie that made me realize you are sexy,” and “The only photo that matters 🤤.”
“Wild Wild West,” directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, featured Smith alongside Kevin Kline and Salma Hayek. Smith and Kline portrayed secret service agents tasked with protecting President Ulysses S. Grant from an assassination attempt. Despite its star power and a budget of $170 million, the film was a box office disappointment, earning only $222 million worldwide. It was heavily criticized, earning eight Razzie nominations and winning Worst Picture and Worst Original Song awards.
Smith himself later called the project “a thorn” in his career, admitting in a 2021 interview that he disliked seeing himself in the leather chaps. Interestingly, the actor turned down the role of Neo in “The Matrix,” a decision he regrets, as the film became a major success.
