Trump Criticizes New York Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani

Former President Donald Trump publicly mocked Zohran Mamdani, a leading candidate for New York City mayor, calling him a “total nut job” and labeling the Democratic contender as a “pure, true Communist.” Trump expressed skepticism about the city’s voters, suggesting they are “crazy” for supporting Mamdani.

During a brief interaction with journalists, Trump teased plans to “have a lot of fun” if Mamdani wins, joking that he would navigate the city’s political scene with ease. Trump also accused Mamdani of promoting communist policies, including plans to increase property taxes on wealthier neighborhoods and advocate for government-controlled grocery stores.

Mamdani, 33, gained attention by defeating prominent figures like former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary. He openly describes himself as a proud socialist and has proposed city-run grocery stores to reduce prices. His platform also includes raising taxes on the wealthy, criticizing police, and opposing Israel, including refusing to condemn the phrase “Globalize the intifada,” which critics interpret as anti-Semitic rhetoric.

In a resurfaced video from a 2021 conference, Mamdani emphasized “seizing the means of production,” a phrase often associated with communist ideology. supporters celebrated his election night success, reflecting his growing influence.
