PSG Predicted to Win the New Club World Cup
According to a supercomputer analysis, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are favored to claim victory in the newly redesigned Club World Cup, aiming to extend their success beyond European competitions.
The group stages concluded recently, with defending champions Real Madrid securing their spot in the knockout rounds after defeating Red Bull Salzburg. The tournament’s round of 16 fixtures are now set, featuring strong European contenders. Manchester City and Chelsea from the Premier League advanced, with City boasting a perfect record.
Other notable qualifiers include Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Benfica, and Juventus, reflecting Europe’s dominance. South American clubs such as Flamengo, Palmeiras, Fluminense, and Botafogo also advanced, alongside Middle Eastern side Al-Hilal and North American teams Monterrey and Inter Miami.
Despite the fierce competition, the supercomputer predicts PSG has a 20.6% chance of winning the tournament, slightly ahead of Manchester City, which is given a 20.4% chance following an impressive group stage performance. City showcased their strength with a 5-2 victory over Juventus, highlighting their potential as serious contenders.
In the knockout stage, PSG will face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday. Success there would set up a potential quarter-final match against Bayern Munich or Flamengo. Meanwhile, other top contenders include Inter Milan with a 12.4% chance, Bayern Munich at 11.3%, and Chelsea at 10.4%. Real Madrid, with a storied history in the tournament, has a 9.7% chance of securing their first trophy under coach Xabi Alonso.
The competition continues through the knockout phase, with the final scheduled for July 13.
