Missouri Nurse Sentenced to 12 Years for Poisoning Her Husband
A nurse from Missouri was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to murdering her husband, setting his body on fire, and tampering with evidence. She accepted a plea deal, maintaining her innocence under an Alford plea, which resulted in her conviction without an admission of guilt.
Amy Murray, 47, was convicted of intentionally poisoning her husband, Joshua, 37, in late 2018. Authorities discovered that Joshua’s blood contained high levels of antifreeze, indicating poisoning. His body was later found burned in a house fire, which Murray had caused. She and the couple’s child, along with their two dogs, had left the house shortly before the fire started.
Murray also set the house on fire and was later arrested. During investigations, authorities revealed she had regular contact with Eugene Claypool, a fellow inmate serving a life sentence for murder, whom she worked with at the Jefferson City Correctional Center.
Recorded phone calls showed Murray expressing her frustration with her marriage and suggesting she wanted to marry Claypool now that her husband was dead. Following her conviction, she received a sentence of 12 years for murder, 7 years for arson, and 4 years for evidence tampering. All sentences will be served concurrently.
