“Shocking! Newark Students Awarded $74K Teaching Jobs at Graduation—You Won’t Believe Their Reactions!”
High School Graduates in Newark Offered Teaching Positions with $74,000 Salaries
Over 30 students from Newark, New Jersey, received job offers at their graduation ceremony that went beyond the traditional diploma. The Newark Public Schools district extended contracts to 34 of their graduates, many of whom participated in an intensive program that prepared them for careers in education.
The contracts, lasting one year, stipulate that the graduates must earn a bachelor’s degree and obtain teaching certification in New Jersey. Once qualified, they are expected to return to the district to teach for an annual salary of $74,000 — nearly twice the average starting salary in the region.
Most of these future teachers attended East Side High School or University High School, completing the Red Hawks Rising Teacher Academy through partnerships with Montclair State University and the American Federation of Teachers.
Two additional graduates received specialized offers as they crossed the stage. Arts High School senior Miguel Rodriguez Bermudez, who plans to study at William Paterson University to become a music teacher, was unexpectedly called back and presented with a $74,000 contract by Superintendent Roger León. The teen joyfully celebrated his achievement as he signed his official teaching agreement.
León praised Bermudez’s mother for overcoming hardships while raising her son, noting her sacrifices and dedication. He encouraged all single mothers to keep striving, emphasizing that their efforts lead to future success.
Another graduate, Alliana Abreu from Barringer High School, secured an athletic trainer position with the district upon completing her college requirements. District officials see these initiatives as investments in local talent and community strength, fostering leaders who will give back to their neighborhoods.
