Naz Reid Signs $125M, 5-Year Deal with Timberwolves—Shocking Contract Breakthrough!
Naz Reid Signs Long-Term Contract with Minnesota Timberwolves
Naz Reid has committed to a five-year, $125 million deal to remain with the Minnesota Timberwolves, extending his stay with the team. Instead of opting to exercise a $15 million player option, Reid chose to negotiate a new contract that includes a player option for the upcoming season.
The 6-foot-9, 264-pound forward played a crucial role in the team’s recent success, especially after winning the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award during the 2023-24 season. He continued his strong performance into the current campaign, averaging a career-high 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in just 27.5 minutes.
Reid has become one of the league’s standout reserves, offering a versatile and efficient stretch forward. His ability to space the floor with three-pointers, drive to the basket, and finish inside has made him a valuable asset next to stars like Anthony Edwards.
His flexibility allows the Timberwolves to deploy various lineups—whether running twin-tower formations with rim protection or small-ball sets emphasizing spacing—without sacrificing defense or rebounding. Although not recognized primarily for rim protection, Reid’s strength and quickness help him switch defensively on the perimeter, leading to fewer points allowed when he’s on the floor.
Head coach Chris Finch praised Reid’s defensive impact, highlighting his role in creating transition opportunities through effective switches and ball movement. Reid’s combination of shooting, playmaking, and defense places him among elite company; last season, only seven players in the NBA achieved 150+ three-pointers, 150+ assists, 50+ blocks, and 50+ steals, a list that includes MVP contenders and prominent role players.
Turning 26 in August, Reid is entering his prime with significant untapped potential. His journey from an undrafted free agent out of LSU in 2019 to a key contributor underscores his relentless work ethic and development. Team president Tim Connelly emphasized Reid’s dedication and the importance of keeping players who impact both on and off the court.
