Arsenal’s Bid for Valencia Defender Christian Mosquera Rejected

The bid from Arsenal to acquire Valencia’s young defender Christian Mosquera has been turned down by the Spanish club, which has specified its asking price. The Gunners had initiated talks to bring in the 20-year-old in hopes of boosting their defensive options as a backup to first-choice defenders William Saliba and Gabriel.

Valencia is demanding the payment of his €20 million (£17 million) release clause, and their initial offer fell short of this threshold. The club has rejected the offer, making it clear that a higher bid is necessary for negotiations to progress.

Arsenal’s interest in Mosquera is part of a broader effort to strengthen their back line, especially after Gabriel suffered a hamstring injury in April. Increasing squad depth to rotate key defenders has become a priority for Mikel Arteta, aiming for improved defensive stability in the upcoming season. With Saliba playing a pivotal role last season and the club’s ambitions for a Premier League title, adding another quality centre-back is seen as strategic.

Aside from Mosquera, Arsenal is exploring other options to reinforce their squad. The club is also eyeing top strikers like Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres, although negotiations with their respective clubs are complex. While Sesko is considered the preferred choice, Leipzig’s firm stance has complicated the deal. Gyokeres, under contract with Sporting Lisbon with a €100 million release clause, has also attracted interest amid reports of a potential move, though Sporting is demanding a higher fee.

Additionally, Arsenal is rumored to be considering attacking reinforcements with targets such as Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo. Meanwhile, the transfer of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea is imminent, with the Spanish keeper set to serve as backup for David Raya at Emirates Stadium.
