Sen. Gillibrand SLAMS NYC Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani Over Controversial Intifada Comments—Demands Public Denouncement!
Kirsten Gillibrand Calls for Condemnation of Controversial Intifada Comments
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has publicly criticized a mayoral candidate for his comments related to the intifada, emphasizing that he should explicitly denounce the phrase if he wishes to represent New York City. Gillibrand, a Democrat known for her support of Israel, expressed her disappointment that the candidate, Zohran Mamdani, did not condemn the rallying cry “Globalize the intifada,” which others have used.
During an interview, Gillibrand stated that New York City, with its diverse population and the largest Jewish community in the country, requires clear leadership. She stressed that Mamdani’s refusal to condemn the phrase was inappropriate and could be perceived as permissible support for violence against Jews.
Gillibrand pointed out that the word “intifada” has deep historical significance and is associated with violent conflicts and atrocities against Jewish communities. She noted that, regardless of Mamdani’s personal interpretation, many Jewish New Yorkers perceive the term as a call to violence and find it deeply offensive.
Gillibrand highlighted that she had spoken with Mamdani after his upset victory in the Democratic primary, which ousted former Governor Andrew Cuomo. She is requesting a face-to-face meeting to discuss her concerns directly.
Remaining firm, Gillibrand underscored that she has already addressed her worries about Mamdani’s statements on Israel and public safety. She reaffirmed her commitment to advocate for New Yorkers and pledged to work with Mamdani if he is elected to ensure the safety and protection of all residents.
