Initially interested in Robertson earlier this month after failing to secure Theo Hernandez from AC Milan, Atletico’s attention may have shifted due to the player’s potential unavailability or changing club strategies.

Despite no official negotiations underway, Atletico have been informed of Robertson’s openness to discussions about a transfer amid speculation he might fall behind in Liverpool’s squad hierarchy following the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

However, according to a Spanish news outlet, Atletico has now set its sights on Matteo Ruggeri, a 22-year-old full back from Atalanta. Ruggeri has garnered attention for his impressive performances at the Under-21 European Championship this summer, showcasing considerable promise.

Contracted with Atalanta until 2028, Ruggeri’s youthful profile aligns with Atletico’s strategy to infuse the squad with younger talent. Negotiations are reported to be advanced, with only a few details remaining before potential agreement.

Meanwhile, Robertson, 31, is in the final year of his contract with Liverpool, having yet to agree to a new deal.
