Celebrity chef Anne Burrell was found “unresponsive and unconscious” in her Brooklyn apartment early on Tuesday morning. Emergency services responded promptly and confirmed her death at the scene. She was 55 years old.
Just days before her passing, on June 12, Burrell shared her final Instagram post, a heartfelt moment featuring her with Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal, affectionately known as The Green Lady, a well-known Brooklyn resident. Burrell captioned, “Ran into @greenladyofbrooklyn in my neighborhood today! I’ve been keeping an eye out for her and may or may not have followed her down the street for a moment. She is just lovely!”
Rosenthal responded to the post, expressing delight at their encounter and inviting Burrell to visit her garden to pick figs when they ripen in September. She wrote, “Hi Anne, it was so much fun meeting you. Come visit my garden and pick figs when they are ready. I love you and can’t wait to see you again!”
Additional comments from Rosenthal conveyed her admiration, saying, “You are such a lovely person, and I love you. I’m sorry to hear about your passing, but know you will always be in my heart.”

Her family issued a loving statement, describing her as a beloved wife, sister, daughter, and friend whose bright spirit touched many across the world. “Though she is no longer with us, her warmth and love will remain forever,” they said.
Throughout her career, Burrell was known for her appearances on popular culinary shows such as Iron Chef America, Chopped, and Worst Cooks in America.
