Meet the NYC Mayor Candidate’s Mysterious Wife—You Won’t Believe How They Met on Hinge!

Zohran Mamdani Wins NYC Democratic Primary

Zohran Mamdani, a Brooklyn-based socialist candidate, secured a significant victory in the NYC Democratic mayoral primaries. His win positions him to face off against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the upcoming November election. If elected, Mamdani would become the city’s youngest mayor since 1914 and potentially its first Muslim mayor.

During his victory speech, Mamdani acknowledged his wife, Rama Duwaji, an artist and animator, who joined him on stage. “I must thank my incredible wife,” he said, receiving applause and sharing a kiss. Duwaji, 27, has a notable career in digital illustration and animation, often focusing on themes of Palestinian support, Arab identity, and female empowerment. She has worked with prominent outlets like The New Yorker, Washington Post, BBC, and London’s Tate Modern.

Duwaji’s artwork frequently highlights issues related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including animations accusing charities of funding Israeli military actions and depicting Palestinians facing ethnic cleansing. She met Mamdani several years ago on the dating app Hinge, and their relationship has been publicly celebrated on social media.

The couple married privately in Dubai last winter, holding a secret engagement and Nikah ceremony on December 22, 2024, atop the Vida Creek Harbour rooftop, with views of the Burj Khalifa. Their engagement, also clandestine, was celebrated in Dubai with close family, according to posts on Instagram.

Mamdani’s primary victory came after he garnered 43.41% of the vote, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who conceded shortly after polls closed. Mamdani’s platform and background—born in Uganda to a professor father and a filmmaker mother—position him as a historic and transformative figure for New York City politics.
