Indictment Secures Justice for Tragic Texas High School Stabbing

The father of Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old student who was fatally stabbed at a high school track meet, expressed his relief following the grand jury’s decision to indict the suspect. The suspect, Karmelo Anthony, now 18, faces a first-degree murder charge after evidence gathered over several weeks led to the indictment.

On April 2, during the event at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Metcalf confronted Anthony when he saw him sitting uninvited beneath his team’s tent. An altercation ensued, during which Anthony reportedly warned Metcalf not to touch him before pulling a knife and stabbing the teen in the chest. Anthony fled the scene, leaving Metcalf to die in his brother Hunter’s arms. The suspect was apprehended shortly afterward and is currently out on a reduced bail of $250,000.

Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, shared his satisfaction with the indictment, stating, “Justice will be served, and I look forward to the trial, though nothing can bring my son back.”

District Attorney Greg Willis confirmed that evidence presentation to the grand jury resulted in the murder charge, emphasizing the community’s ongoing pursuit of justice. “This case moves into the court system, and we are committed to a fair process,” Willis said.

Defense attorney Mike Howard contended that Anthony acted in self-defense, expressing confidence that the court will recognize this when the case proceeds to trial. Anthony, who graduated from Frisco Centennial High School in May, has been under house arrest since his bail reduction, living in a rental home in a gated community.

The incident marked a tragic loss for the local community and the Metcalf family, who had been at the meet with Austin and his twin brother, Hunter. The family posted pictures after a football game, highlighting the twins’ involvement in sports.

Anthony faces a potential life imprisonment if convicted. The case remains ongoing as the legal process advances.
