Alan Hamel Confirms New Relationship with Actress Joanna Cassidy

Alan Hamel, 88, has publicly shared that he is dating actress Joanna Cassidy, whom he has known for decades. The two were photographed together in Malibu, arm-in-arm, while enjoying lunch at Broad Street Oyster Company. Hamel describes Cassidy as “extremely accomplished” and expressed uncertainty about the future of their relationship, stating, “I don’t know where this relationship is going.”

Hamel and Cassidy are wearing matching Malibu Beach Inn baseball caps during their outing. Hamel reveals that he has known Cassidy for over 45 years, dating back to her appearance as a guest on his Canadian talk show in the 1970s. Their paths crossed again in the 1985 miniseries Hollywood Wives, in which Cassidy and Hamel’s late wife, Suzanne Somers, starred together.

The actor explains that his son, Stephen, facilitated their reunion after meeting Cassidy at a screening. Stephen suggested that his father and Cassidy would get along, not knowing they already knew each other. Hamel, who was widowed in October 2023, feels that his late wife, Suzanne Somers, approved of his new relationship, having advised him to live his life without mourning forever and promising they would reunite after crossing over.

Hamel praises Cassidy, highlighting her busy career and her qualities. “She is the hardest working actress in Hollywood for over 50 years, a devoted mother to her adult children, active in community fundraisers, and a loving pet mother to her four cats. She is straightforward, and we share many laughs.”

He also recalls that Cassidy, a former model, was previously married to Dr. Kennard Kobrin, divorcing in 1974. Their relationship stayed platonic, and Cassidy has remained single since. Hamel admits that Cassidy first appeared on his show in the 1970s and that they met occasionally over the years. Their recent meeting was encouraged by his son, who believed they would connect well.

Reflecting on her influence, Hamel said, “I am fortunate to have Joanna in my life. Most men would love to have someone like her. I don’t know where this will lead, but I feel blessed.”
