NBA Draft 2025: Nets Suddenly Hold 5 First-Round Picks & Power After Landing Terance Mann!
Nets Hold Record Number of First-Round Picks Ahead of NBA Draft
The Brooklyn Nets enter the NBA Draft with a rare advantage, owning five first-round picks thanks to a recent three-team trade involving the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks. This gives the Nets the highest number of first-round selections among all teams, a feat not achieved since the 2009 Minnesota Timberwolves had four.
In the deal, the Nets acquired veteran guard Terance Mann and the No. 22 overall pick from Atlanta, with Brooklyn giving up nothing but taking on Mann’s three-year, $47 million contract. This move marks the fifth first-round pick for the franchise, which also owns picks at Nos. 8, 19, 26, and 27, along with a second-round selection at No. 36.
While it’s unlikely the Nets will use all their picks, their immense draft capital puts them in a powerful negotiating position, especially since the No. 1 overall pick is expected to go to the Dallas Mavericks—likely former Duke standout Cooper Flagg. The team’s extensive assets suggest a busy draft period, with plenty of opportunities for trades or selections.
Despite recent struggles—finishing last season with a 26-56 record and missing the playoffs—the franchise has been undergoing a coaching transition, with Jordi Fernández recently completing his first year as the head coach amid multiple coaching changes over the past few seasons.
Can Brooklyn leverage its draft wealth to rebuild and return to competitiveness? That remains to be seen, but the upcoming days promise significant activity as the Nets look to reshape their future with their unprecedented number of draft selections.
