House Democrats and Republicans Oppose Effort to Impeach President Trump Over Iran Strikes

The majority of House Democrats joined most Republicans in voting to dismiss a proposed article of impeachment against President Trump related to his missile strikes on Iranian facilities. In a decisive 344-79 vote, the House tabled the impeachment push initiated by Democrat Rep. Al Green.

Notably, 128 Democrats opposed the impeachment efforts. Green, who has repeatedly advocated for Trump’s removal, defended his stance by emphasizing concerns about bypassing congressional authority: “No one person should have the power to take the nation to war without consulting Congress.”

Rep. Al Green has long called for impeaching President Trump.

Green accused Trump of abusing power by ordering strikes against Iran’s Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow facilities. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) promptly moved to a vote on whether to dismiss the impeachment initiative.

House Democratic leadership suggested impeachment distractions detract from legislative priorities.

While some Democrats, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sean Casten, supported impeachment discussions, only Ocasio-Cortez voted against tabling the resolution. Party leaders indicated impeachment was a distraction from other key issues, like opposition to the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

This is not Trump’s first brush with impeachment. He survived two impeachments during his initial term. Green, who has long championed Trump’s removal, argued that impeachment is vital to uphold constitutional integrity. Previously, Green heckled Trump during a joint speech earlier this year and has persistently called for his impeachment, including repeated efforts during previous terms.
