Luis Enrique Erupts at FIFA: Calls Club World Cup Pitches “Holes” & “Rabbit-Jumping” Disaster!
PSG’s Luis Enrique Criticizes Pitch Conditions at the Club World Cup
PSG manager Luis Enrique expressed frustration over the quality of the playing surfaces at the Club World Cup, following the team’s qualification to the knockout stage. The French club secured their advancement by defeating Seattle Sounders 2-0, topping Group B and eliminating Atletico Madrid from the tournament.
Looking ahead, PSG will face Inter Miami, led by former PSG star Lionel Messi, in the Round of 16, but Enrique was more focused on the playing conditions than the upcoming challenge. After the match at Seattle’s Lumen Field, he voiced his displeasure with the pitch quality.
“I wouldn’t imagine an NBA court full of holes,” Enrique said. “What really matters to me is the state of the field, and I say this after our victory. The ball bounces unpredictably, almost like it’s jumping around like a rabbit.”

Despite the poor surface, PSG’s players adapted well, and they secured a comfortable victory. Enrique highlighted that stadium pitches in the U.S. can differ significantly from European standards, with some requiring water to stay playable, and others experiencing rapid drying after watering.
“This affects our game style, which relies on a smooth, even pitch. Nevertheless, we managed to perform well and are pleased with the result.”
Enrique’s concerns echo those of other players, including Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid, who also criticized the condition of the pitches after scoring in their 3-1 win over Pachuca. Bellingham noted that the uneven surfaces hindered play and increased physical strain, especially on his knees.

Player Fatigue and Future Plans
Bellingham is nearing the end of a demanding season, with over 60 games played, and plans to undergo shoulder surgery after the tournament to address ongoing issues. Currently playing with a brace, he is eager to recover and return to his previous level of fitness.
“I’m feeling the fatigue, especially with the busy schedule,” Bellingham said. “We’re pushing through the remaining games, aiming to win another title, but I’m looking forward to getting my body back to normal.”
