Newcastle’s £45m Bid for Ex-Man United Star Rejected—Eddie Howe Faces Major Setback!
Newcastle’s £45 Million Bid for Anthony Elanga Rejected Amid Transfer Setback
Newcastle United’s recent attempt to sign Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga for £45 million was swiftly declined. Forest officially rejected the bid upon receipt and have indicated they have no intention of selling the Swedish international.
Elanga, 23, played a vital role in Forest’s success this season, contributing to their seventh-place finish and qualification for European football’s Europa Conference League for the first time since 1995-96. He scored six goals and provided 12 assists, showcasing his importance to the team.
Reports indicate that Newcastle had previously expressed interest earlier in the month, following a more modest approach last summer which was also turned down. Forest is expected to demand a transfer fee exceeding £50 million, especially for a player under contract for three more years.
Elanga’s versatility allows him to operate across the front line, aligning with Newcastle’s strategic priorities, as well as his exceptional speed—once clocked racing 85 meters in nine seconds during a counterattack, leading to a goal against Manchester United.
Having started his Premier League career with Manchester United, Elanga transferred to Forest in summer 2023 for around £15 million. Although he struggled for consistent game time at United under Erik ten Hag, he rediscovered form at Forest and is now playing European football.
Despite the setback, a move to Newcastle could still materialize if they decide to meet Forest’s valuation, especially considering the prospect of Champions League football, which the Magpies qualified for recently and see as a significant attraction.
Elanga remains under contract with Forest, and the club is unlikely to part with him without securing a substantial fee. His pace and flexibility make him a valuable asset, and a potential transfer remains a key storyline in the ongoing summer transfer window.
