Mayor Adams Sparks Outrage After Puffing Hookah at NYC Lounge Just Days After U.S. Airstrikes on I:ra:n!
Mayor Adams Spotted at Queens Lounge Following US Airstrikes on Iran
In Queens, the mayor was seen enjoying a hookah at the upscale Sands of Persia lounge in Astoria, just a day after the United States conducted airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities. He was photographed wearing a baseball cap with “MAYOR ADAMS” and an NYPD polo shirt during a relaunch event at the venue.
The relaunch included a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by notable figures, including Winnie Greco, a former aide whose properties were recently raided amid federal corruption investigations. Adams’s visit was captured as he relaxed under the lounge’s purple ambient lighting, prompting questions about its timing following the military strikes.
Adams’s spokesperson clarified that the visit was unrelated to the Iran operations, stating he had no prior knowledge of the guest list. A City Hall representative highlighted the city’s record-breaking number of small businesses, noting that many started during his administration and that Adams actively supports them by attending related events.
Greco, who resigned in October after her properties were raided by FBI agents, served as an advisor on Asian Affairs and had previously helped fundraise for Adams. Despite her absence from public view since investigations surfaced, her presence at the event drew attention, especially given that federal charges against her were later dropped. Spokesperson Todd Shapiro confirmed she is not involved in the mayor’s campaign or official government activities.
The mayor’s appearance at the lounge coincided with heightened tensions in the Middle East, as the US launched significant airstrikes on Iranian sites, actions President Trump described as “monumental.” Following the strikes, Adams issued a statement via social media, expressing concern for New York City’s large Persian community and announcing increased police presence at religious and diplomatic sites across the city.
