Arsenal’s Secret Weapon? Surprise Replacement for Thomas Partey Hailed as Next N’Golo Kante!
Arsenal Eyeing Sevilla Midfielder as Thomas Partey’s Contract Awaits Decision
With Thomas Partey approaching the end of his contract and negotiations at an impasse, Arsenal are exploring alternatives to reinforce their midfield. One standout option is Lucien Agoume, a 23-year-old midfielder from Sevilla, who has drawn interest from the Premier League club.
Agoume, often compared to N’Golo Kante for his ball-winning skills, played a key role in Sevilla’s effort to maintain their La Liga status last season. The French youth international came through the Sochaux academy, which has produced several notable players, before signing with Inter Milan in 2019. After loan spells and limited first-team opportunities in Italy, he joined Sevilla on a permanent deal this summer.
Agoume has also represented France at the Under-21 level and spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Sevilla, where he refined his defensive capabilities. Born in Cameroon, he has yet to earn a senior cap for France, but his performances have caught the attention of Arsenal’s coaching staff.
Meanwhile, Partey’s future at Arsenal remains uncertain amid ongoing contract talks that have reached a deadlock. The Ghana international, who joined the club in 2020 from Atletico Madrid, has made 167 appearances and scored nine goals. Despite a challenging last season due to injuries, he proved instrumental in the Gunners’ run to the Champions League semi-finals.
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, had hoped to retain Partey but appears to be looking elsewhere as negotiations stall. The club is also reportedly close to signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi for around £51 million, but Agoume remains a key alternative.
Agoume’s move to Arsenal would bolster midfield depth, and his versatility and ball-winning ability have made him a rising star in European football.
Arsenal are considering Lucien Agoume, Sevilla’s talented midfielder, as a replacement for Thomas Partey.
