Paul Pogba Nears Return to Football with Two-Year Deal at a Champions League Club

Paul Pogba, who has been without a team since parting ways with Juventus in 2024, is reportedly close to re-entering professional football after agreeing to a two-year contract with a club competing in the Champions League. The French midfielder, a World Cup winner, previously served an 18-month doping ban following a positive test, which was later reduced from an original four-year suspension. The Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed that Pogba mistakenly took DHEA, a testosterone booster on the banned list, but noted that DHEA’s effects are primarily on females.

After his ban concluded earlier this year, Pogba has been linked with a return to the game. A recent report suggests he has finalized a deal with Monaco, a Ligue 1 team that qualified for the upcoming Champions League season by finishing third in the league. Pogba reportedly traveled to Monaco in June to meet club officials and discuss logistics, including his accommodation, security, and transportation arrangements. To secure this move, he reportedly made significant financial concessions.

Although he hasn’t played since September 2023, Pogba has shared glimpses of his training regimen on social media, signaling his intention to return to competitive football. If the transfer proceeds, Monaco will mark Pogba’s first appearance in the Champions League, as the club’s recent league performance earned them a spot in Europe’s premier competition.

Throughout his career, Pogba has represented France 91 times and was part of the 2018 World Cup-winning squad. His club career includes stints at Manchester United—where he came through youth ranks—and Juventus. He transferred back to United in 2016, then returned to Juventus on a free transfer in 2022.

Recently, Pogba was seen training with Manchester United youth players during pre-season preparations in Florida, sporting a vintage Juventus kit. This training session included players like Leny Yoro and Kobbie Mainoo, fueling speculation about his imminent return to top-flight football.
