Liverpool Approves £35 Million Transfer of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen and Plans for Young Defender Replacement

Liverpool has agreed to transfer defender Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for an initial fee of £30 million, plus an additional £5 million in potential add-ons. Quansah, who is currently representing England at the Under-21 European Championship, is expected to sign a contract with Leverkusen that runs until 2030.

Having come through Liverpool’s youth system since the age of five and made 58 senior appearances, Quansah has contributed to the club’s success with three goals and titles including the Premier League and the League Cup. The deal includes a buy-back clause for Liverpool, giving them the option to re-sign him in the future.

Liverpool, under the management of Arne Slot, is now focused on recruiting a young central defender to fill the void. The club has previously shown interest in prospects such as Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, although Guehi is reportedly willing to remain at Palace through his final contract year. Other potential targets include Ajax’s Jorrel Hato, a versatile 19-year-old capable of playing at center-back or left-back, and players like Leny Yoro and Dean Huijsen, both of whom Liverpool considered over the past year.

The transfer signings with Leverkusen do not end there; Liverpool recently acquired Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from the German club, now managed by Erik ten Hag. On the other hand, some key departures include Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid and Caoimhin Kelleher joining Brentford.

Quansah has been a regular in England’s Under-21 squad, helping the team reach the semi-finals of the European Championship. He has also been previously linked with a move to Newcastle United, which could have involved Anthony Gordon switching to Liverpool.

Bayer Leverkusen has signed Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah for a fee of £30 million.
