Shocking Glass Door Accident Leaves NY Man Seriously Hurt—You Won’t Believe What Happened!
Young Man Injured When Large Glass Door Collapses at Manhattan Glass Store
A sudden accident at a Manhattan eyewear shop resulted in serious injuries to a young man walking past the store. William Vance, 32, was struck when a heavy glass door spontaneously fell from its hinges and shattered onto him.
Vance was merely strolling along West 34th Street near Herald Square when the incident occurred. He described the event, saying he was not attempting to open the door and was caught off guard as it suddenly collapsed, hitting him with significant force and causing multiple injuries.
According to his lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, the store’s employees had reportedly been working on the door the day before, suggesting prior knowledge of a potential hazard or that the defect was created during maintenance. The glass door, common for storefronts, can weigh up to 350 pounds.
Vance sustained multiple fractures to his shoulder and foot, along with rotator cuff and ligament injuries. His attorney disclosed that he has been immobilized in a sling, unable to work, and has missed a month of recovery time due to the injuries.
The incident took place when Vance was simply passing by the store, with no attempt to interact with the door. The lawsuit emphasizes that the falling door caused him to fall and sustain his injuries, and questions whether the store or its workers were negligent in maintaining the door properly.
While the store has since replaced the door, his attorney expressed concern about the lasting impact of the injuries. Vance’s case raises questions about safety protocols and ongoing store maintenance to prevent such accidents in the future.
