Former Dolton Mayor Announces Autobiography Amid Legal Troubles

The controversial former mayor of Dolton, Tiffany Henyard, has revealed her plans to publish a memoir titled Standing on Business. She shared this news via a Facebook post, promising “the real story is coming” and encouraging followers to pre-order the book, which retails for $99 and is reportedly the first installment in a trilogy.

Henyard declared, “From mommy moves to making history, I am not just showing up. I’m standing on business.”

Despite her assertive announcement, local residents and online followers expressed skepticism. Comments on social media accused her of trying to profit from her notoriety, with one stating, “Still trying to hustle money,” and another remarking, “Michelle Obama’s bestseller was cheaper than this mess.”

Henyard’s legal issues continue to unfold. She recently invoked the Fifth Amendment during a court appearance concerning a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit related to her time in office. Her attorneys stated she does not possess the requested documents; a judge allowed her team to submit an affidavit instead, claiming, “The mayor has no documents that the plaintiff seeks.”

The lawsuit was filed by the Edgar County Watchdogs, targeting Henyard and the Village of Dolton for failing to disclose financial records requested under federal FOIA laws. The organization expressed doubt that Henyard would cooperate after losing her re-election bid, especially given her decision to invoke the Fifth Amendment.

Henyard gained national attention in April 2024 when her administration was served with FBI subpoenas amid an alleged corruption investigation, though she was never formally charged. Her spending was scrutinized after reports indicated her bank account balance dropped from $5.6 million to a $3.6 million deficit during her tenure.

Following her primary defeat earlier this year, she lost her bid for re-election to Jason House, who took office in May. On the same day, federal authorities issued a subpoena related to a land development project allegedly involving her boyfriend.
