Nicolas Jackson’s Shocking Red Card and PAINFUL Apology—Chelsea Teammates Call for Improved Performance!
Nicolas Jackson Apologizes After Second Red Card in a Month
Nicolas Jackson, the young Chelsea striker, has publicly apologized to fans and teammates following his second red card in just over a month. The 24-year-old was dismissed early in Friday’s 3-1 defeat to Flamengo at the FIFA Club World Cup, after a reckless foul on Ayrton Lucas mere minutes after entering the game as a substitute.
The incident occurred when Jackson raked his studs down Lucas’s shin, earning a straight red card and leaving Chelsea with ten men. The match was already challenging for Chelsea, who had initially taken the lead through Pedro Neto but quickly conceded twice, and the red card only worsened their situation. Flamengo secured the victory with a late goal from Wallace Yan.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Jackson expressed remorse, stating, “I want to say sorry to the club, staff, teammates, and fans. I let you down. Another red card, and honestly, I’m very angry at myself. I work hard every day to support the team and avoid situations like this. It wasn’t intentional—it was just a moment gone wrong. I take full responsibility.”
Teammate Marc Cucurella acknowledged it was “bad luck” but emphasized Jackson’s need for maturity, saying, “He tried to kick the ball but kicked the opponent’s leg. He is a talented young player who needs to improve this aspect.” Cucurella also shared that Jackson apologized to the team in the dressing room and remains an important member of the squad.
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel criticized Jackson’s decision, calling it a “stupid mistake” that put his team in a difficult position, especially during a critical period. Chelsea manager Maresca declined to comment on the incident, simply noting, “It was a red card, so there’s nothing to add.”
As a result of his suspension, Jackson will miss the upcoming decisive match against ES Tunis. Liam Delap, a recent £32 million signing from Ipswich Town, is expected to step in to lead the attack in Jackson’s absence.
