Kevin Durant Buys Minority Stake in PSG & Could Launch Basketball Franchise—Shocking Sports World Twist!
Kevin Durant Acquires Minority Share in PSG and Considers Basketball Expansion
NBA star Kevin Durant has become a minority investor in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), contributing to the club’s plans for growth beyond football. The investment was made through a partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the owners of PSG, which also involves Durant advising on the club’s broader sports strategy, including potential ventures into basketball.
PSG, already established in handball and judo, is exploring options to expand into new sports, with basketball being a key focus. QSI has previously indicated an interest in launching a professional basketball franchise in Paris, aligning with Durant’s involvement and insights. This move coincides with discussions from the NBA and FIBA regarding the launch of a new European league, dubbed NBA Europe, featuring teams in cities like London and Paris.
Sources suggest PSG ambitions extend toward joining NBA Europe, a proposed league that would include franchises in major European cities and attract teams from the EuroLeague. Durant, who ranks as one of the world’s highest-paid athletes, previously invested in PSG via his firm, Boardroom, and has expressed enthusiasm about helping the club diversify its sporting portfolio.
Durant remarked on his partnership, stating: “It’s an honor to partner with QSI and be a shareholder in PSG, a club and a city I hold dear. I look forward to contributing to its future growth and exploring new opportunities.”
QSI president Nasser Al-Khelaifi welcomed Durant, emphasizing strategic collaborations to elevate PSG’s global presence. The current move reflects broader efforts to innovate and expand PSG’s influence across different sports and markets.
