Bride-to-Be Killed in Devastating Drunk-Driving Crash Weeks Before Wedding—Fiancé in a Coma!
Tragic Wrong-Way Crash Claims Bride-to-Be in Oklahoma
A devastating car accident in Oklahoma has taken the life of 23-year-old Katelyn Callahan, just weeks before her wedding day, due to a suspected drunk driver on the wrong side of the highway.
Callahan and her fiancé, Tristen Cherry, 24, were returning home from a festival with two teenagers when an alleged intoxicated driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 44 collided with their vehicle around 2:30 a.m. on May 2. Callahan, who was behind the wheel, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cherry, who was riding in the backseat and suffered severe injuries including facial fractures, a lacerated kidney, and dental trauma, spent nearly a month in a coma. He described the final moments, saying, “I said, ‘Katelyn, I love you.’ And we hit.”
The couple, who had been together for three years and planned to marry on May 31 in Bristow, shared a profound bond. Despite his injuries, Cherry now spends time healing and reminiscing about their love story, which he describes as “the greatest love story this town has ever seen.”
Sadly, Callahan’s tragic passing struck just days after Cherry woke from his coma. His recovery involved multiple surgeries, and while he has been discharged from the hospital, the pain remains.
In the aftermath, the accused driver, Sergio Ibarra, 29, was taken into custody and faces charges of first-degree manslaughter and three counts of DUI. Ibarra, along with his passenger and the teenage victims, were hospitalized following the crash.
The couple’s love was described as “God’s plan,” starting from high school, and blossoming after Cherry invited Callahan to a fraternity event. Their relationship was renowned for its strength and depth, with plans for a wedding in a matter of weeks. Cherry continues to cherish her memory, talking daily to her and reflecting on their love that defied the tragic circumstances.
