Shocking! Gang Members Who Murdered Innocent Boy After Crossfire Get Life Sentence
Two Men Sentenced to Life in Prison for Fatal Shooting of 11-Year-Old in New Mexico
Two individuals involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of an 11-year-old boy have received life sentences. During the sentencing, one of the men displayed a cruel smile directed at the victim’s family.
Jose Romero, 23, and Nathan Garley, 22, were convicted of firing dozens of rounds outside Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, mistakenly believing they were targeting rival gang members. In the attack, Froylan Villegas was struck in the head and killed. The child’s cousin, Tatiana Villegas, was paralyzed after being shot, while his mother and baby brother, also in the vehicle, escaped unharmed.
The victim’s cousin, visibly distressed after witnessing Romero’s mocking behavior, criticized the defendants for their lack of remorse. Tatiana, who is wheelchair-bound following multiple gunshot wounds, expressed her pain at losing her best friend and the significant toll the incident has taken on her life.
“Jose laughed and taunted us while he was in court, but after sentencing, he stopped,” Tatiana said. “He took my best friend, and I had to see him die. He walks and eats in jail while I rely on my mother.” She stated she is grateful that justice was achieved, despite her trauma.
Following the verdict, the family expressed relief and gratitude for justice. The attack had sparked concern across the state, leading the governor to declare a public health emergency related to gun violence and implement a temporary carry ban in certain parks and playgrounds.
