The son of renowned novelist Michael Chabon is currently facing serious criminal charges, including felony rape. Prosecutors allege that Abraham Chabon, 20, assaulted a woman on January 25, 2024, by choking her and hitting her repeatedly, while also sexually assaulting her.

Chabon, a student at NYU, appeared in court for the second time Wednesday following his initial arraignment last week. He is accused of grabbing the victim by the neck, which made breathing difficult, then taking her to a bed where he raped her. The complaint also states that he struck her multiple times in the face, leading to a state of stupor and causing temporary vision loss in one eye.

He arrived at the courthouse accompanied by his mother, the Israeli-American novelist Ayelet Waldman. His father is a celebrated author, known for works like “Wonder Boys” and “Telegraph Avenue.”

Following the arraignment, Chabon was released on bail set at $45,000 cash or a $150,000 bond. The case continues to develop as authorities investigate the allegations.
