During an overnight shift at a Lowe’s in Scranton, Pennsylvania, an employee named Christopher Wasnetsky, 36, shot and killed his coworker, Jeff Moeller, 44. Remarkably, Wasnetsky admitted to the act in an email sent to the company’s HR.

According to a criminal complaint, Wasnetsky fired multiple shots at Moeller, who was operating a forklift at around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. Emergency responders found Moeller critically injured, with two gunshot wounds to the head and one in the back. He was rushed to Geisinger Community Medical Center but died later from his injuries.

Police quickly apprehended Wasnetsky at the store’s entrance. He confessed to calling 911 himself and brazenly told the operator that he was the shooter. Before the attack, he had sent an email to Lowe’s management warning of his intentions, claiming that Moeller had harassed him, and that management had ignored his complaints.

Wasnetsky indicated to authorities that he shot Moeller at close range, aiming to end his suffering. He also told police he had been practicing target shooting with a handgun beforehand and that he intended to kill himself but didn’t go through with it. Currently, he faces murder charges and is held without bail pending his preliminary hearing on June 30th at Lackawanna County Prison.

Jeff Moeller is remembered as a diligent father of three daughters. A GoFundMe page was established to support his family with funeral expenses, describing him as a man with a kind heart and infectious laugh. His coworker, Kassie Sierra, praised his character, highlighting his hard work and positive spirit.

In interviews, Wasnetsky claimed he practiced shooting beforehand and shot Moeller in the chest from about five feet away. After the shooting, Moeller pleaded for help as he fell from the forklift. Wasnetsky stated he committed the act to stop Moeller’s alleged harassment at work, which he claims had been unresolved despite multiple complaints.

He further revealed planning to kill himself afterward but changed his mind. Moeller’s family is receiving support through donations aimed at easing the burden of their loss. The tragedy highlights ongoing concerns regarding workplace harassment and mental health, with authorities continuing their investigation.
