Shocking moment: Daughter of NY woman confronts her attacker for the first time—You won’t believe what happens next!
The daughter of a woman who was nearly beaten to death recently faced her mother’s alleged attacker for the first time and expressed how the brutal assault “turned my life upside down.”
Stephanie Rodas, 21, recounted her emotional reaction upon seeing Miguel Jiraud, a parolee and convicted rapist, in a Manhattan courtroom. “I couldn’t control my shaking and tears. All I could see was the aftermath—my mom in that hospital bed, crying,” she shared.
“How could someone do this? How could he look at my mom and do something so horrible? It’s ruined my life,” Stephanie added.

Jiraud, 30, was still on parole for a prior felony when he ambushed Diana Agudelo on May 16 on a bike path at Randall’s Island, leaving her gravely injured. Police say he was living in a homeless shelter on the island at the time. Miraculously, Jiraud later called 911 to report the assault he had allegedly committed.
Authorities linked him to the crime through his ankle bracelet monitoring device. He appeared in court charged with attempted murder and robbery, pleading not guilty. His ankle monitor indicated he was moving at 16 mph near the scene, possibly riding a stolen e-bike later found dumped in the East River.
Agudelo, who was returning from work at the Museum of the City of New York, was assaulted while on a bike path late at night. She remains in critical condition after brain surgery to relieve fluid buildup, with ongoing fevers and infections.
Stephanie described her mother’s condition: “She’s not fully conscious and can’t look at you for long before her eyes drift. She’s been fighting for her life since that terrible night.”
She reflected on her visit to court: “He didn’t look at me. I think he didn’t even acknowledge I was there. He seemed just like any normal person—someone I wouldn’t suspect. My mom was just trying to get home from work.”
Jiraud’s violent past includes a 2011 rape in which he dragged a woman from an elevator to a roof, choking and assaulting her. He was ordered held without bail during his court hearing.
