A Girl Scout troop faced an unexpected challenge during a Pennsylvania day camp retreat when severe flash flooding trapped over 100 girls and volunteers at a cabin.

More than 2.5 inches of rain poured in Allegheny County, hitting during lunchtime, causing the girls to retreat into the Girl Scout Cabin as floodwaters rose rapidly.

The overflow was due to a nearby stream that surged beyond its banks, trapping the group, according to Allegheny County police spokesperson Jim Madalinsky.

Rescue teams arrived swiftly, guiding the stranded girls to safety using a rope as floodwaters began to subside.

Girl Scout Lila Hall recounted, “They gave us life jackets and helmets. We held onto a rope, walked through the rushing water, and stayed calm, singing songs to cheer each other up,”

Another scout, Emilia Krieger, added, “I tried to keep everyone calm; I sang songs to encourage the younger girls.”

Fortunately, all scouts and volunteers arrived safely, with no injuries reported, police confirmed.

After wading through the flood, the girls’ families waited to welcome them back with towels and relief.

The Girl Scouts organization offers various programs for ages from kindergartners to high school seniors, known for activities like annual cookie sales which often feature top prizes such as trips to Disney World.

In 2025, a Girl Scout in Brooklyn sold over 2,500 boxes of cookies, surpassing previous winners and demonstrating the success of young entrepreneurs.
