Keino Campbell was shot three times in the chest after confronting two drivers who bumped his car early Saturday in Eastchester. Thomas, who last spoke with him on Friday night, struggles to understand his sudden death.

“Why? Why? Why?” she lamented, tears in her eyes. Campbell, her third of six children, was known for his generosity and working as a childcare worker. He had plans to attend electrical engineering studies this fall, aiming to start his own business someday.

Authorities say Campbell was shot after a confrontation with two drivers involved in a minor traffic incident. The suspect, Michael Aracena, a 20-year-old Manhattan resident, was arrested early Monday and faces murder, manslaughter, and weapons charges. He was remanded and is scheduled for court Friday.

Thomas plans to attend the court hearing to face her son’s alleged killer. Law enforcement sources indicate the accomplice who supplied the weapon remains at large.
