Terrifying Masked Daredevil’s Crazy Roosevelt Island Tram Climb — Now Facing Serious Charges!
A reckless individual was caught on video climbing the Roosevelt Island tramway tower Monday evening, prompting emergency response.
Twenty-year-old Miguel Martinez from Oceanside, LI, faces charges of reckless endangerment, obstruction of justice, and criminal trespassing after the incident that occurred around 7 p.m., authorities said.
The footage shows Martinez, masked, calmly walking along the gangway of the 250-foot-high support structure on the Manhattan side. The video captures him traversing a series of ladders and walking onto a narrow I-beam, with the nerve-wracking scene making headlines.
Martinez climbed down and crossed several short ladders on the tower, eventually stepping onto a narrow I-beam that barely supported his weight, as shown in the video.
Rescue teams arrived after alarmed New Yorkers dialed 911. They safely reached the top, secured Martinez in harness, and brought him down unharmed, police confirmed.
Martinez was transported by paramedics to Weill-Cornell Medical Center for evaluation, according to the FDNY. Authorities clarified he did not appear to be protesting or making a statement, simply taking a dangerous stunt for thrill.
