Meghan Markle’s Surprising Reason for Avoiding the Fashion Industry After Leaving Royal Life!
Meghan Markle’s goal is to spread happiness to others.
In a recent podcast interview, the Duchess of Sussex explained why she pivoted from fashion and beauty industries to launch her lifestyle brand, As Ever. After stepping back from royal duties, she chose this path to pursue her true passions.
Markle, 43, admitted her initial instinct was to enter fashion or beauty. However, she realized these weren’t her daily passions and preferred a more meaningful pursuit.
“I always knew I wanted to create something impactful,” she said. “After five years of reflection, I questioned what I genuinely wanted to share—and it turned out to be something simple yet meaningful.”
The inspiration was her homemade raspberry jam, which she used as holiday gifts for friends. “Their reactions made me think, ‘Maybe this is the thing,’” she recalled.
Her love for cooking and the kitchen has always been a part of her life. Her initial plan was modest, focusing on local markets, but her brand expanded when she collaborated with Netflix on her lifestyle show, “With Love, Meghan.”
“What started as simple jam-making grew into a global brand,” she noted. “I never imagined it would reach this level, but I’m grateful for the interest.”
Her entrepreneurial spirit was evident from childhood. In elementary school, she sold fabric scrunchies she made—charging $1 each—using allowance money to buy supplies.
Future plans could see her branching into fashion again. Her style choices continue to draw attention, with many of her looks selling out quickly, and she also holds a trademark for “hospitality services,” hinting at potential ventures into hotels and restaurants.
Her early entrepreneurial endeavors also included selling scrunchies she made with fabric from LA, highlighting her innate business sense from a young age.
Markle has expressed her commitment to authenticity, choosing her natural hair over wigs during her tenure on “Suits,” despite industry advice to conceal her real hair for protection.
“I received a lot of recommendations to wear wigs to prevent hair damage,” she shared, “but I prefer to keep things natural, at least for now.”
