Wolves to Build Memorial for Diogo Jota in Tribute to Late Forward

Wolves to Create Permanent Tribute to Diogo Jota Following Tragic Passing

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced plans to establish a lasting memorial in honor of Diogo Jota after his untimely death at age 28 earlier this month. The Portuguese winger, who played a key role in Wolves’ recent successes and helped Liverpool secure the Premier League title last season, died in a car accident in northern Spain.

Jota, who scored 44 goals in 131 appearances during his three seasons at Wolves, originally joined on loan from FC Porto in 2017 before transferring to Liverpool in 2020 for £41 million. His contributions on the pitch earned him widespread admiration, and he was remembered fondly by fans and teammates alike.

In the days following the tragedy, a tribute area outside Molineux has become a powerful space of remembrance. Fans left flowers, scarves, and shirts to honor his memory. The club expressed its gratitude for the outpouring of affection, noting that items collected are being carefully preserved and considered for a future, more permanent memorial. Floral tributes will be transformed into colored ink for a bespoke artwork, with further details to be shared soon.

Wolves has also revealed plans to commemorate both Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, at upcoming home fixtures—specifically the final friendly before the 2025-26 Premier League season and their first league game against Manchester City. The club is working closely with supporters to ensure these tributes appropriately honor the players’ legacies.

Additionally, Liverpool paid tribute to Jota during a pre-season match against Preston, where striker Darwin Nunez dedicated his goal celebration to his former teammate by mimicking Jota’s signature move and gestures, including a shark sign scored earlier this year at Everton.
