Maniac Stabs Sleeping Man on NYC Train, Sparks Bloody Brawl

Man Attacks Sleeping Subway Passenger, Injuring Him with Multiple Stabs

Early Monday morning, a 56-year-old man was assaulted while sleeping on a southbound subway train, leading to a violent brawl and bloodshed inside the train. The incident occurred around 6:10 a.m. at the 145th Street station in Harlem.

According to authorities, a 20-year-old suspect targeted the sleeping passenger, stabbing him at least three times in the head during the ride. The attack apparently triggered a fight that spilled into a second train car, leaving bloodstains in both compartments.

Transit officers, stationed inside the station, responded quickly after observing a disturbance towards the rear of the train. The suspect, identified as Alcantara, was detained at the scene and now faces charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

At the scene, police recovered a knife, which was alleged to be used in the attack. Alcantara has a criminal record, including three prior arrests—most recently for allegedly slashing his mother with a steak knife during a domestic dispute just days earlier. During his arraignment, he was released on his own recognizance on charges of weapon possession, assault, and harassment.

His previous arrests include jumping a subway turnstile and possessing a weapon, police said.
