FBI Director Kash Patel has shared a set of documents with Congress, revealing an alleged Chinese effort to interfere in the 2020 election by producing thousands of fake US driver’s licenses.

The exact nature of the scheme remains unclear, but an anonymous source claimed that China intended to use these licenses to cast mail-in votes in favor of Joe Biden, according to an FBI spokesperson.

Investigations began as early as August 2020, yet reports on this plot were later withdrawn for reasons not publicly disclosed. Around that period, US Customs and Border Protection confiscated nearly 20,000 counterfeit licenses.

Biden secured victories in swing states like Arizona and Georgia by over 10,000 votes each, while Trump’s loss in Wisconsin exceeded 20,000 votes.

Patel publicly declassified an intelligence report and forwarded it to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) for further review.

“The FBI has uncovered documents suggesting serious interference efforts, including Chinese Communist Party (CCP) plans to produce and smuggle fake driver’s licenses to facilitate illegal mail-in ballots,” Patel posted on X. “I have declassified this information and shared it with Chairman Grassley.”

Senator Grassley raised concerns that the investigation was incomplete despite evidence of the fake licenses, urging the FBI to revisit the case. Patel acknowledged that the agency supplied the requested documents, emphasizing the importance of transparency.

According to Patel, the documents detail Chinese plans to manufacture and ship fake licenses into the US, allegedly to assist in fraudulently influencing mail-in ballots, though the full scope remains unclear. The FBI received an anonymous tip about the scheme, but its response at the time is uncertain.

The Post contacted Grassley’s office for further information. Concerns about Chinese counterfeit license production have existed for years, including a 2012 letter from senators urging China to curb fake US driver’s licenses following confiscations at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.

Patel has committed to increasing transparency within the FBI and providing lawmakers with crucial intel, some of which has long been withheld.
