President Trump Credits First Lady Melania for Influencing Ukraine Support

President Trump indicated that his wife, Melania, played a role in persuading him to increase military aid to Ukraine. During remarks, he mentioned that she pointed out to him that Russian President Vladimir Putin often retracts his commitments following phone conversations about peace deals.

He shared a recent exchange, stating, “I tell the first lady, ‘Vladimir and I had a good talk,’ and she responds, ‘Did you hear about another city being hit?’” This led him to consider taking a stronger stance against Russia.

The Kremlin has continued intensified drone and missile attacks on Ukraine amid ongoing conflict, prompting Trump to pledge a significant military response. He vowed to supply billions of dollars in weapons and impose tariffs on Russia if President Putin rejects a proposed cease-fire within the next 50 days.

Melania, originally from Slovenia, has not publicly addressed her views on Ukraine before. Notably, her homeland has maintained a cold stance towards Russia since the invasion began in February 2022. A Russian airstrike destroyed Slovenia’s consulate in Ukraine early in the conflict.

During a recent public appearance at a soccer match, Trump and Melania were photographed together, highlighting her support. His comments on her influence in Ukraine policy have been positively received by supporters seeking stronger U.S. backing against Russian aggression.
