Ex-Man United Player Sues Over Medical Negligence After Repeated Injuries
Ex-Man United Player Files Lawsuit Over Alleged Medical Negligence
A former Manchester United defender has initiated legal action against the club, claiming they provided negligent medical care during his time at Old Trafford.
27-year-old Axel Tuanzebe, who came through the club’s youth system, has filed a claim with the High Court, alleging inappropriate medical advice concerning his repeated injuries.
During his tenure at United, Tuanzebe made 37 appearances amid various injury setbacks. He debuted in January 2017 and left the club in September 2023 to join Ipswich Town, contributing to their promotion to the Premier League. The Congolese international also represented England at youth levels before making his senior debut for DR Congo in 2024.
While under contract at United, Tuanzebe had loan spells at Aston Villa, Napoli, and Stoke City. He made 45 appearances over two seasons with Ipswich before transferring to Burnley on a free transfer last month.
His injury history includes a season-ending injury in December 2019 during a match against Colchester in the Carabao Cup, a foot issue that sidelined him at the start of the following season, and a peculiar incident in October where he suffered a thumb injury while doing household chores, requiring surgery to repair tendon damage.
Legal representatives for Tuanzebe declined to comment, as did Manchester United.
Tuanzebe’s case alleges negligence in the medical treatment he received, raising questions about the club’s medical protocols and support for injured players.
