Horschel played against him a few times and recognized his extraordinary ability and unwavering self-belief. Though initially competitive and somewhat boisterous, Horschel admitted that their relationship matured into one of mutual respect and friendship over the years.

“We have a great friendship, communicate regularly, and I admire what he’s achieved,” Horschel said. “We never imagined how far Rory would go, but his career has been truly historic.”

The rivalry and camaraderie between the two persisted into recent tournaments. At last year’s BMW Championship at Wentworth, they competed fiercely in a playoff, which Horschel won with a remarkable long putt. Despite the high-stakes contest, both players showed their respect, sharing a warm embrace on the green.
