NYC Dems Recruit People to Move to Florida, Fla. Senator Calls It “Insanity”
Florida Politicians and Business Leaders Campaign to Attract New York City Residents
Some Florida officials and business groups are actively attempting to lure residents and business leaders from New York City, amid concerns over the city’s political climate. Senator Rick Scott criticized New York Democrats for encouraging migration to Florida, calling it “insanity.”
Scott questioned the intentions of Democratic officials in New York, accusing them of policies that harm jobs, education, and safety. He emphasized, “We’re not going to do that in Florida,” highlighting the state’s contrasting approach.
Meanwhile, Florida’s local leaders are welcoming these efforts. Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer, along with Palm Beach County economic officials and Florida’s Council of 100 business leaders, are extending an open invitation, promoting Florida’s lifestyle, beaches, and economic opportunities to those seeking a change.
Economic development initiatives aim to attract residents concerned about New York City’s recent political proposals, which include plans to raise taxes by up to $9 billion to fund programs like affordable housing, child care, and free transportation. These potential tax hikes have sparked fears among wealthy residents and corporations in New York, prompting Florida to position itself as a more favorable alternative.
The campaign to entice NYC residents signals a broader regional economic rivalry, with Florida leveraging its appeal to offset political concerns in New York. Despite inquiries, the campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
