David Mimran Sued Over $15M Jackson Pollock Payment

Son of a Billionaire Commits to Purchase Jackson Pollock Artwork but Fails to Pay

The son of a wealthy businessman has entered into an agreement to buy a $15 million Jackson Pollock painting but has yet to make any payment, according to court documents. David Mimran, whose father Jean Claude has an estimated net worth of $2 billion, agreed to purchase the 1948 abstract impressionist work if it remained unsold at a November auction.

After the painting failed to sell, Mimran was contractually obligated to buy it. However, he missed two key payment deadlines—one in March and another in June. Despite confirming he could not complete the purchase, Mimran requested an additional 60 days to pay, citing assets in West Africa that were becoming accessible.

Legal representatives for the auction house criticized Mimran’s claims of financial hardship, noting his history of overextending financially. They also pointed out that Mimran previously left a $7 million divorce settlement unpaid and had sold a Swiss resort earlier this year for $250 million.

Sources indicate Mimran, a former Manhattan resident and filmmaker who left the city in 2013, has a history of accruing significant debt. His current inability or unwillingness to fulfill the purchase has prompted legal action from Phillips Auctioneers, which argues that he should not have participated in the bidding if he was insolvent.

Lawyers for Mimran have not issued comments regarding the case, leaving the situation unresolved as the dispute over the art transaction continues.
