‘King of Pimps’ Who Recruited Spitzer’s Hooker Cleared in YouTuber Dispute
Legal Cases Dismissed for “MrBased” Live Streamer After Social Media Dispute
The individual claiming the title “King of All Pimps,” known for recruiting Ashley Dupré during her involvement in a scandal that contributed to former Governor Eliot Spitzer’s career downfall, has recently seen criminal charges dropped in a lengthy legal conflict.
Jason Itzler, 58, also known as “MrBased,” is a popular live streamer with a significant following on TikTok and Instagram. He was under investigation in Brooklyn for allegations of harassment, criminal contempt, and making terroristic threats related to threats against YouTuber Alex Novell and violations of a restraining order. This week, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office announced that the charges have been dismissed, a decision confirmed by Itzler’s attorney, Mark Bederow.
Previously, Itzler pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in Manhattan following an incident involving Novell. He also faced lawsuits from Novell for harassment and defamation, all of which have now been dropped after resolutions were reached.
Aside from legal issues, Itzler has moved away from his criminal past, often appearing online with social media influencers like TikToker Josh Block, known as “World of T-shirts.”
The dispute between Itzler and Novell intensified when Novell accused him of confessing to a 2010 murder of Wisconsin college student Julia Sumnicht, alleging that Itzler admitted to providing drugs that contributed to her death. Itzler denies any involvement, and audio recordings presented by Novell have not resulted in charges.
Throughout the 2000s, Itzler built an infamous reputation by running a major prostitution ring and claiming to have launched Ashley Dupré’s career in the sex industry. Dupré, once a figure in scandal, has since reinvented herself as a social media personality, sharing parenting tips and family life with her followers on TikTok, where she has amassed over 300,000 followers. Her stepdaughter, Alix Earle, is a TikTok star with 7.4 million followers, overshadowing her stepmother in social media fame.
