Johnny Depp Admits to Being ‘ Played Dirty’ in Amber Heard Lawsuit
Johnny Depp Reflects on Trust, Love, and Betrayal During Litigation
In a recent interview, Johnny Depp opened up about the emotional toll of his divorce and defamation case against Amber Heard in 2022. He recounted how some acquaintances in Hollywood betrayed his trust, despite their previous closeness, especially during the contentious legal battles that followed.
Depp described his anger toward those who turned against him, recalling how some officials and colleagues labeled him difficult or hesitant to work with due to rumors. Despite this, he maintained that loyalty and trustworthiness remain core to his character, even after decades of his career.
He characterized a group of people who had previously supported him as “fake,” saying they pretended to praise him publicly while secretly speaking ill behind his back — driven by financial motives. Notably, some of these individuals had attended his children’s early years and interacted with them, which Depp found particularly hurtful.
Depp also reflected on his role as a “scapegoat” in the MeToo movement, acknowledging he was perceived as vulnerable before the movement gained momentum in 2017. He expressed frustration about being used as an example, saying he endured public scrutiny long before high-profile cases like Harvey Weinstein’s surfaced.
Career Battles and Personal Insights
The actor explained that his conflict with Heard started in 2016, prior to Hollywood’s broader reckoning with abuse allegations. After Heard posted an article in 2018 claiming she was a victim of domestic violence, Depp faced industry-wide hesitation, leading him to pursue a defamation suit that he won in 2022. Despite this, Depp expressed that he no longer felt the desire to return to Hollywood, feeling isolated from the industry’s support.
Looking inward, Depp described himself as a “gullible person” in love, often seeking connection with others but risking resentment. He reflected on his childhood, describing a family lacking in true happiness and explaining that his experiences with love have been complicated by naivety.
Future Projects and Personal Life
Currently, Depp is returning to the screen in Day Drinker, alongside Penélope Cruz, set for release in 2026. Besides acting, he writes music, paints, and creates poetry. After his legal victory, he toured with Jeff Beck to promote their collaborative album 18. Following Beck’s death, Depp relocated to the English countryside in Somerset.
Meanwhile, Amber Heard, after her legal battles, has moved to Madrid with her daughter and her partner, photographer Bianca Butti. She announced the birth of twins in May, marking a new chapter in her life away from Hollywood controversies.
