Ted Cruz Cancels Europe Trip Over Devastating Texas Floods

Senator Ted Cruz Responds to Flooding in Texas Amid Family Vacation

While touring the ancient Greek ruins with his family, Senator Ted Cruz was seen visiting the Parthenon just over a day after the Guadalupe River flooded parts of central Texas. Cruz’s office confirmed he was already engaged in preplanned international travel during the flooding event early on July 4.

He quickly coordinated with local and federal officials, including Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and the Texas Emergency Management Director, to ensure resources were allocated for rescue efforts. Cruz returned to Texas from Athens on Sunday morning, arriving in Kerrville, one of the areas hardest hit by the floods, later that evening.

An eyewitness described Cruz walking past them at the site with his family and a security guard. The witness reportedly questioned Cruz’s vacation amid the tragedy, to which Cruz allegedly responded with little acknowledgment. His spokesperson dismissed the story as inaccurate and untrustworthy.

Cruz highlighted the urgency of evacuation, stating, “If we could do it over, especially in vulnerable areas near water, we would have evacuated and moved children to higher ground.” He also shared that his daughter Catherine had recently attended summer camp near Camp Mystic, where at least 27 campers and staff lost their lives due to the rising waters.

Cruz expressed personal anguish, mentioning he recently picked up his youngest daughter from camp and empathized with families of missing children, emphasizing the emotional toll of the disaster. Some critics pointed to his European vacation, recalling a previous trip to Cancun during Texas’s February 2021 winter storm crisis, which Cruz admitted was “obviously a mistake.”
