NYPD Officer Carjacked Off Duty in Bronx
Off-Duty NYPD Housing Officer Carjacked at Gunpoint in the Bronx
A 27-year-old off-duty NYPD housing officer was targeted in a carjacking in the Bronx on Saturday night. The suspect approached the officer near Ward Avenue in the Soundview neighborhood, emerging from a damaged Ford SUV and threatening him with a firearm.
According to authorities, the suspect forcibly removed the officer from his personal vehicle around 10:48 p.m. in response to a 911 call reporting an ongoing assault. The suspect then fled the scene in the officer’s car, which was later found in New Rochelle after being involved in a crash.
The officer escaped injury, though his vehicle was damaged in the process. The perpetrator left behind the damaged SUV and drove away with the officer’s personal car. Police from the NYPD and neighboring New Rochelle are collaborating on the investigation, but no arrests have been made yet.
Sources confirmed that the officer was unharmed during the dangerous incident. This event comes after a similar attack in May on another off-duty NYPD housing officer, Chowdury Nafees, who was robbed and assaulted in the Bronx. Nafees’ attackers were subsequently arrested and charged.
