Dad Julian Ryan Dies Saving Family in Texas Flood
Texas Father Dies Saving Family During Severe Flooding
A man in Texas lost his life heroically while attempting to rescue his family from devastating floodwaters. Julian Ryan, 27, severely injured his arm—nearly severing it—after punching a window to escape their water-filled trailer home.
Early Friday morning, Julian, his fiancée Christinia Wilson, their 6-year-old, and 13-month-old children were trapped as the Guadalupe River surged unexpectedly. The family huddled in a bedroom, trying to hold the door against the rapidly filling home. Wilson recounted how their home was quickly overwhelmed by the rising waters, prompting Ryan to make a daring move.
The floodwaters forcibly entered the bedroom. Demonstrating great bravery, Ryan punched through a window to create an escape route, injuring himself severely. His family watched helplessly as he bled out, calling 911 repeatedly but unable to get immediate help. In his final moments, Ryan told his loved ones, “I’m sorry, I’m not going to make it. I love y’all.”
After his body was recovered hours later as floodwaters receded, the family mourns his sacrifice. Wilson described him as a joyful, helpful person and the best father. A GoFundMe campaign honoring Julian’s heroism has surpassed $25,000 to support his family.
Emergency services arrived too late for Julian, and the flood’s destructive force ultimately claimed 43 lives, including 15 children, with many victims still unaccounted for. The tragedy underscores the severe impact of the recent flash flood in Texas.
