Boys Share Harrowing Escape from Texas Floods on Bunk Beds
Brothers Survive Texas Flash Flood After Bed Tipping Over
Two brothers, Brock and Braeden Davis, faced life-threatening flash flooding soon after arriving at a camp in Hunt, Texas. As waters surged, their beds began to tip, forcing them to flee for safety.
Bryan was awakened around 4 a.m. by screams outside. He later learned that a nearby cabin was flooded, and some campers were caught outside in the rain. With their cabin rapidly flooding, the brothers scrambled onto higher ground, climbing onto a top bunk. As the water rose, the bunk beds tipped, and part of the wall collapsed, leaving their cabin severely damaged.
Without communication devices, the brothers couldn’t contact their family immediately. They were trapped inside the flooded cabin for about 13 hours before camp leaders evacuated them to a safe shelter. During their wait, rescuers and the Coast Guard arrived to assist other campers and search for missing individuals.
Once rescued, they received snacks before being reunited with their family in Houston. Their parents praised the camp counselors who saved the boys’ lives and emphasized how fortunate they were to survive the disaster that has claimed over 70 lives so far.
Other campers also escaped miraculously. Piers and Ruffin Boyett had to swim from their flooded cabin to reach higher ground, making quick decisions to survive as waters overwhelmed their bunk beds. They were eventually rescued and taken away from the floodwaters on a bus. Ruffin expressed relief that no one was injured or killed, attributing their salvation to their prompt decision to swim to safety.
