Reps. Pfluger & Carter Safe After Texas Flooding
Family Members Safe Despite Devastating Texas Floods
Two members of Congress shared that their relatives were rescued from severe flash flooding in Texas and are safe. The floods, which struck the Texas Hill Country and resulted in at least 80 fatalities, caused widespread destruction, especially affecting Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, where relatives of Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas) were staying.
Pfluger revealed that his two daughters were evacuated from the Christian camp near the Guadalupe River. He expressed relief that Camille, Vivian, and his wife have been reunited with their daughters, Caroline and Juliana, who were evacuated as well. He acknowledged the immense grief felt by many families and praised first responders for their heroic efforts.
Camp Mystic, which hosted over 750 campers, was hit in the middle of the night when floodwaters surged. As rescue operations continue, authorities report 11 children remaining missing. Pfluger also paid tribute to Dick Eastland, the camp’s co-owner, who gave his life to save campers during the disaster, and praised his lifelong dedication to developing young girls’ character.
On social media, Carter confirmed that his granddaughters were safe but mourned the loss of their cousin, Janie, and many others. The floods, which have caused significant damage across various counties including Kerr, Burnet, Kendall, and Travis, have prompted ongoing rescue and recovery operations. Local officials remain committed to finding survivors, holding onto hope amid the tragedy.
